Migrating and Modernizing Mission-Critical Manufacturing Workloads on AWS Building Secure, Observable, and Resilient Operations

Migrating and Modernizing Mission-Critical Manufacturing Workloads on AWS Building Secure, Observable, and Resilient Operations

MenaBev planned to migrate its complete on-premise virtual machine landscape to AWS, ensuring minimal downtime, strong security, and uninterrupted manufacturing operations. The environment included mission-critical systems such as SAP- integrated components, Active Directory, file servers, BI platforms, RPA workloads, HR/Time-Attendance, and Freshservice ITSM. SUDO designed and executed a secure, scalable lift-and- shift migration to the AWS Middle East (Bahrain) Region that improved availability, reduced costs, and strengthened MenaBev's security posture using AWS native services.

Why Choose SUDO

SUDO is a trusted AWS Premier Tier Services Partner with deep expertise in large-scale cloud migrations, Windows workloads, SAP environments, and enterprise security on AWS. SUDO brings strong experience in migrating mission-critical systems such as SAP, Active Directory, manufacturing platforms, and automation workloads with minimal downtime and risk. For MenaBev, SUDO applied proven migration frameworks built around AWS Application Migration Service (AWS MGN), a multi-account AWS Landing Zone, and AWS-native security services to deliver a secure, scalable, and resilient cloud environment. By using managed services and automation, SUDO reduced operational complexity while ensuring compliance, performance, and long-term flexibility across MenaBev’s manufacturing, BI, RPA, HR, and ITSM workloads.

The Solution

SUDO designed and implemented a secure and  scalable AWS migration strategy using AWS native services to ensure a smooth lift-and-shift transition from on-premises and Azure environments to the AWS Middle East (Bahrain) Region.

  • Leveraged AWS Application Migration Service (AWS MGN) to perform real-time, block-level replication of MenaBev’s complete VM landscape, including BI servers, RPA engines, Fresh service, Time-Attendance, internal application servers, and supporting infrastructure, enabling automated cutover with downtime limited to minutes.
  • Built a multi-account AWS Landing Zone spanning Management, Network, Production, Development, Audit, and Log Archive accounts, governed through AWS Organizations and AWS Single Sign-On for centralized identity and access management.
  • Deployed segmented VPC architecture with dedicated Prod (10.90.0.0/16), Dev (10.80.0.0/16), and Shared Services (10.70.0.0/16) VPCs — separating App, DB, and DMZ subnets behind a centralized FortiGate firewall deployed from AWS Marketplace in the Network VPC.
  • Configured AWS Transit Gateway and Site-to-Site VPN to securely interconnect MenaBev on-premise, SAP RISE (Abu Dhabi), MenaBev Azure Europe, and MenaBev Azure Abu Dhabi environments — enabling seamless hybrid and multi-cloud connectivity.
  • Provisioned right-sized EC2 instances across m-series, r-series, and t-series families, sized according to MenaBev’s VM performance profile, with all EBS volumes encrypted using AWS KMS customer-managed keys.
  • Implemented centralized governance and audit by enabling AWS CloudTrail, AWS Config, GuardDuty, and Security Hub, with all logs aggregated into a dedicated Log Archive account and CloudWatch logs streamed to the Audit account.
  • Enabled robust backup and recovery with AWS Backup for daily EC2 snapshots, hourly SQL backups, and S3 lifecycle policies for long-term retention — aligned with MenaBev’s RPO/RTO targets.

Results & Benefits

  • Successful migration of all targeted servers to AWS with minimal downtime, ensuring beverage production, distribution, and corporate operations continued smoothly throughout the transition.
  • Reduced operational costs by migrating to AWS and optimizing the use of cloud-native services, resulting in a 30% decrease in infrastructure costs through right-sizing, Savings Plans, and elimination of physical data-center overheads.
  • Achieved 99.99% uptime for all migrated workloads post-migration, supported by multi-AZ architecture, redundant networking, and FortiGate-based high-availability design.
  • Enhanced security posture by implementing best practices such as the FortiGate firewall, AWS GuardDuty, VPC segmentation, and private subnets, leading to a 50% reduction in security-related incidents and full alignment with corporate audit requirements.
  • Streamlined hybrid integration across MenaBev on-premise, SAP RISE (Abu Dhabi), and Azure environments via AWS Transit Gateway and Site-to-Site VPN, delivering seamless multi-cloud connectivity without disrupting end-user access.
  • Increased operational efficiency by reducing server management time, with AWS Systems Manager, automated scaling, and CloudWatch-based monitoring, enabling MenaBev IT teams to manage the environment more effectively.
  • Established a future-ready foundation for SAP S/4HANA modernization, advanced analytics, AI/ML, IoT, and digital supply-chain initiatives across MenaBev’s manufacturing and distribution operations.
